After Mr. Goldberg left in season 7, the writers said it was very challenging trying to incorporate a senior after that for the rest of the series.

Here's an idea they could have used: How about they switch and have only TWO people working at the men's counter and THREE at the lady's?

That being the case, here's a question/game for fans:

Who would have made a good Junior underneath Mrs. Slocombe and Miss Brahms?

How would the new character have been introduced?

One idea would have been to introduce Miss Lovelock in AYBS before Grace and Favour.

That being the case, she could have been the new "junior" on the ladies counter.

If the episode S7E2 "Strong Stuff This Insurance", there is a ballet teacher that the staff hire to help them train. Miss Lovelock could have been her assistant (having a ballet background) in order to introduce her to the show. Later on in season 8, they could have brought her back as a new hire, with the idea that she eventually leaves (after season 10) to go work for Mr. Grace at Millstone Manner a couple years before the staff arrive.

Another funny possibility would have been to have Jane Leeves from "Frasier" come and play the Junior on the lady's counter.

Jane is an English actress, and may have fit in nicely for a single season. In fact, she might climb the ladder quickly and overtake the others with her sales and commissions. Eventually, she might get transferred to middle management and be a floor walker in another department.

Another possibility is that she's not directly under Mrs. Slocombe at all. Instead, she has her own independent stand where she sells a specific brand within the store, whereby both Grace Brothers and the brand split the sales, just as we saw in S6E5.

This way Jane could directly interact with Mrs. Slocombe and Miss Brahms without needing to be a junior; it would change the dynamic completely. In fact, she could be introduced as a "senior" from another store (Derry and Toms) who decided to open her own franchise to sell within Grace Brothers.

This already occurred once in S1E4, however this time it could be a much better arrangement that does not directly conflict with the sales on the lady's counter, and therefore Jane could stay for (at least) an entire season of the show.
